There's nothing quite like a beach day in Scotland. Wide stretches of white sand, water so clear it looks tropical on a bright day, dunes to shelter in and very often nobody else about: Scotland's beaches are some of the most beautiful anywhere, and a day spent on them is hard to beat. These days take you to the best of them, with a walk along the shore, a café or fish and chips for lunch, and another beach around the next headland if you've still got the energy.
Every day is worked out stop by stop, so you know where to go, how long the drive is between each place and where to park. Bring layers whatever the forecast promises, a flask of something hot, and a towel if you're brave enough to swim. The loveliest beach days often start on a still, clear morning, so an early start is always worth it. Choose where you're starting from, or simply the beach that catches your eye.
