Eas Mòr – A Waterfall, a Woodland Library and Lunch
About 1.2 miles on foot.

Eas Mòr is one of the loveliest waterfalls in the south of Arran, a single white plume dropping almost straight down a cliff into a wooded gorge above Kildonan.
An easy woodland trail leads to platforms over the gorge, and a short climb takes you to the Library in the Woods, a turf-roofed cabin papered with notes left by visitors. Lunch is at the Forest of the Falls, the café at the start of the trail.
- Time
- About an hour for the falls and the Library.
- The path
- The trail to the first platforms is well kept and generally easy; the climb to the Library is short but steep.
- Where to start
- A small free car park on the A841 opposite the westernmost road to Kildonan, beside the café.
- When to go
- The trail is free and open at all times; the café opens every day from 10am, and in winter it is worth ringing first.
- Dogs
- On a lead by the gorge.
- Children
- An easy family walk; children can leave a note or a drawing in the Library.
- Toilets
- Ask at the café.
- Before you set out
- The platforms look into a deep gorge: keep children close.
The walk
The car park is on the A841, opposite the westernmost road down to Kildonan. It's small, so pull in with care.
A well-kept trail runs north through the trees for a little over 500 metres to the gorge, where viewing platforms look across to the falls; the last gives the best view. From the path junction a short, steep climb leads to the Library in the Woods, a log cabin built from storm-felled timber, where you can read the notes and leave one of your own.
Allow about an hour for both, and wear shoes with grip.
If it rains
After rain the falls are at their best and the café has a big covered shelter; in a downpour keep to the trail and the platforms and leave the steep path to the Library for a drier day.
Afterwards

Forest of the Falls Café
Lunch
The Forest of the Falls is right by the car park: a café with tables in a garden and a big timber shelter for wet days, and a view over the trees to the sea. Lunch is homemade and generous, with pizzas, burgers, soup and sandwiches, and plenty for vegan and gluten-free diets. It opens every day from 10am, until 5pm from Monday to Thursday and 7.30pm from Friday to Sunday; in the winter months ring 01770 820258 before you go. If it's shut, the Kildonan Hotel, just over a mile down the road on the shore, serves food.
