The Rha Waterfall – Uig Wood and a Seafood Lunch
A few hours.
The route
The Rha waterfall is a lovely short walk at the head of Uig Bay, in the north of Skye.
A path leaves the road into a steep wooded glen, and at its head the river drops in two leaps into a dark pool, with moss on every stone. A few minutes down the road, the Galley at Earlish is a seafood café with a view over the loch.

Rha Waterfall
An attraction
Park in the small free pull-in where the A855 meets the A87 at the head of the bay, or at Uig Community Hall, signed off the A87 about 100 metres on, which asks for a donation. The path leaves the A855 a short way up, where there's no pavement, so go single file on the road edge. It climbs by steps, with a handrail above one steep drop, then goes down into the glen to the foot of the fall. From the road it's about 200 metres to the foot of the fall: allow 20 minutes there and back, longer if you linger. The steps are slippery after rain, and the path is no place for a pushchair. Dogs are welcome on a lead. The nearest public toilets are at Uig Pier, about 1 km away.

The Galley Café
Lunch
Drive 4 minutes south to the Galley at Earlish, a blue seafood café up a steep drive off the A87, looking over Loch Snizort. Have the freshly caught seafood, most of it offered as a small plate at lunch, or the local meat, and look at the specials board on every table. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 8pm, and it gets busy, so book a table on 07485 133316. There's a ramp to the door and the terrace.
If it rains
The fall is at its best after rain and the glen is sheltered by its trees; the steps are slippery, so take them slowly and hold the handrail.
