Bowmore Pier – Sunset over Loch Indaal and Supper
A few hours.
The route
Bowmore's Main Street runs straight downhill from the Round Church to the pier, with Loch Indaal filling the view at the bottom.
Walk down as the day ends, watch the sun go down across the loch from the pier, then stroll along Shore Street to Peatzeria for wood-fired pizza by the water. It's an easy evening on foot for a couple or a family.

The day
Bowmore
An evening stroll downhill from the Round Church to the pier to watch the light go over Loch Indaal, then supper by the water, three minutes' walk along Shore Street.
About two and a half hours

Bowmore Pier
From the Round Church, walk straight down Main Street to the pier at the bottom, about five minutes downhill and some 400 metres, with Loch Indaal ahead of you all the way. Walk out past the moored boats and watch the sun go down across the loch towards the Rhinns. In mid-October it sets at about half past six. Once the clocks go back at the end of the month it's down by 5pm, and in December before 4pm, so in winter the last light comes before supper. At low tide the little beach beside the pier runs along to the distillery's slipway. Wrap up, as the pier is open to the wind.
About 3 min on foot

Peatzeria
Supper
Supper is at Peatzeria, three minutes' walk east along Shore Street from the pier, in a whitewashed building with a little belfry right on the water. It serves wood-fired pizza and pasta from 5pm to 9pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and shuts on Sundays and Mondays. Book on 01496 305171. There's a smaller-appetites menu and highchairs, the restaurant is wheelchair accessible, and dogs may sit with you outside. If it's full, the Lochside next door has a restaurant over the harbour, open daily: ring 01496 810244.
If it rains
In rain, skip the pier and watch the loch from Peatzeria's windows instead; the walk down Main Street takes five minutes.
