Cult Cafe – Breakfast and a Browse in the Bookshop
A few hours.
The route
Cult Cafe is a bright little café on Argyle Street, a street back from Ullapool's harbour, loved for its breakfasts, good coffee and a counter of traybakes and cakes.
After breakfast, it's a short walk along to the Ceilidh Place, where the bookshop off the café is packed with Scottish books, from nature writing and hill walking to poetry and Gaelic. It's all on foot, with nothing to drive to.
Before you go
The day
Ullapool
A slow morning on foot in Ullapool: breakfast at Cult, then a browse among the books at the Ceilidh Place, three minutes' walk away.
About two hours

Cult Cafe
Breakfast
Cult Cafe is a white cottage on Argyle Street, a street back from the harbour, with its round green sign on the gable and a little table outside on a dry morning. It opens every day from 7.30am (8am on Sundays) until 4pm. Order a flat white and the avocado toast with radish, or something sweet from the counter of traybakes and cakes. Dogs are welcome. If every table is taken, the Ceilidh Place café, where the bookshop is, serves breakfast from 8am to 11am.

Ceilidh Place Bookshop
A shop
It's 3 minutes' walk west to the Ceilidh Place on West Argyle Street, the white row that is a hotel, café, bar and bookshop in one. The bookshop opens off the café and stays open as long as the café door is, from 8am. It's small but wide-ranging: nature writing and hill walking, history and poetry, Gaelic books, children's books and sheet music, with a lean towards Scottish writing. Take your time, and finish with another coffee by the woodburner. Dogs are welcome here too.
If it rains
Both are indoors, 3 minutes' walk apart: only the short walks between them are out in the weather.
