Findhorn Bay – An Evening Stroll and a Pint at the Kimberley
A few hours.
The route
Findhorn sits at the mouth of its own wide, shallow bay, with the dunes and pines of Culbin across the water.
A stroll along the bay's edge in the evening light ends at the Kimberley Inn, a stone pub from 1777 with a terrace over the water, a log fire for colder nights and good seafood from the kitchen. It's a lovely way to finish a day on the Moray coast.

Findhorn
An attraction
Leave the car at the West Beach car park by the marina, at the north end of the village, where you pay at the barrier by contactless card. The signs for the marina and beach are a surer guide than a satnav. A flat path runs south from there along the edge of Findhorn Bay into the village, past wooden boats pulled up on the grass and benches facing the water. Across the bay are the dunes and pines of Culbin, and the sun goes down over that side of the water. In June it sets after ten, from October before seven, and in December at about half past three. At low water the bay drains to sandbanks: stay off them, as the tide comes back in fast.

The Kimberley Inn
A drink
The Kimberley Inn is on the village's main street facing the bay, 9 minutes' walk from the car park. The building dates from 1777. When it's fine, the front terrace looks straight over the water, and when it turns chilly there's a log fire inside. It opens every day from noon, with Scottish malts, gins and cask and craft beers, and homemade food served all day, much of it seafood: a chowder of salmon, haddock and prawns, crab salad, hot smoked salmon, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices. It's at its best on a long summer evening on the terrace, or by the fire on a wild winter one. Ring 01309 690492 to check how late the kitchen is serving. If it's full, the Crown & Anchor, Findhorn's other pub, is a few doors away and serves food from noon.
If it rains
On a wet evening skip the stroll, drive into the village, and go straight to the fire at the Kimberley.
