The Jigger Inn – The Scores, the 18th and a Fireside Pint
A few hours, from St Andrews bus station and back.
The route
This evening stroll in St Andrews goes along The Scores, the street on the cliff top above the sea, then down beside the 18th fairway of the Old Course to the Jigger Inn, a little pub by the links with open fires and its own ale.

The day
St Andrews
An easy evening on foot through the old town: the sea and the cliff top first, then the links in the last of the light, and a seat by the fire to finish.
About two and a half hours

Old Course at St Andrews
An attraction
From the bus station it's a 9-minute walk up to The Scores, the street along the cliff top, then 5 minutes west past the Martyrs' Monument. Carry on 5 minutes past the R&A clubhouse and along The Links, the road beside the 18th fairway, to Grannie Clark's Wynd. This public road crosses the first and last holes of the Old Course, and from its end you can see the old stone Swilcan Bridge across the fairway. Golf is played here every day but Sunday, so keep to the road and watch for balls.

The Jigger Inn
A drink
The Jigger Inn is 6 minutes' walk on, by Gibson Place and the path to Old Station Road. It's the old stationmaster's lodge from the 1850s, beside the Old Course Hotel. It has open fires, golfing memorabilia, home-cooked food and its own Jigger Ale. It's open every day from noon to 11pm, with the last table for food at 10pm; book by phone on 01334 474371 if you want to eat. Dogs are welcome only in the beer garden. From the Jigger it's 11 minutes' walk back to the bus station.
If it rains
On a wet evening it's still only 25 minutes out to the Jigger on pavements and a short path, with the fire waiting at the end. The shorter way, by Station Road and Old Guardbridge Road, takes 11 minutes: save The Scores for a dry night.
