The Old Stable is a little stone building in the middle of Pittenweem, made by an award-winning architect into a New York-style hideaway for one or two.

The old stone walls are left bare, and inside there’s a comfy sofa beside the wood-burning stove, a small kitchen with everything you need, and a bespoke dining table. A steel stair climbs the stone wall to a king-size bed made up in Egyptian cotton, under a timber ceiling. It’s a cosy, romantic place to come back to after a day on the East Neuk, and the owners put every one of their homes moments from the harbour. Guests recommend the West Braes tidal pool, a few minutes’ walk across the beach.

Where it is

The Old Stable is in the middle of Pittenweem, a fishing village on the East Neuk of Fife, down one of the village’s wynds.

The Fife Coastal Path runs through the village, east to Anstruther and west to St Monans, and there are good bus routes to St Andrews, Dundee and Edinburgh.

Getting herePittenweem is on the East Neuk of Fife and the Fife Coastal Path, about an hour and a quarter by road from Edinburgh. Parking is free in the village, and buses run to St Andrews, Dundee and Edinburgh.
