St Monans Welly Boot Garden
A garden of some 200 pairs of old wellington boots planted with flowers on the harbour slipway at St Monans, started by a local teacher.

On the old slipway beside the harbour at St Monans, where boats were once hauled out of the water on rails, there is now an unusual garden.
Every summer some two hundred pairs of old wellington boots stand in rows along the slip, each one planted with flowers.
The garden was started by Win Brown, a local teacher and keen gardener, who wanted to give her grandchildren's outgrown wellies a new life and brighten up the bare concrete at the same time. Her pupils brought their old boots too, and so did others in the village, and the collection has kept on growing. The boots are painted and patterned, the layout changes from year to year, and a little boat full of flowers and a pale blue shed with a cheerful mural complete the scene.
It is a small, joyful, entirely local thing, and it has helped St Monans win prizes in the Beautiful Fife awards.

A rainbow array of flora-filled wellington boots form the unlikely focal point of this seasonal attraction in St Monans, the bonkers-but-brilliant brainchild of a local schoolteacher, who found herself in possession of wellies that her grandchildren had outgrown. From small beginnings, the community became involved, and these days up to 200 pairs can be seen on the village slipway each summer.
