Mareel – Supper by Breiwick Bay and a Night on Hay's Dock
A few hours.
The route
Mareel is Shetland's arts centre, a grey-clad building on the quayside at Hay's Dock with cinema screens, a main auditorium and a café bar looking out over the water.
Start with supper at Fjarå, on its own small point above Breiwick Bay, then drive round in time for a film or a show. It's all indoors but the short drive between.
Before you go
Book a table at Fjarå Café Bar for about 5.30pm on its website or on 01595 697388: dinner is served until 10pm Tuesday to Saturday; it closes at 5pm on Sundays and is shut on Mondays.
Book the night's film or event at Mareel on Shetland Arts' website or on 01595 745500: the films and music are listed there with their times, and it's shut on Mondays.
The day
Lerwick
Supper by big windows over the bay, a few minutes' drive round the town, and a film or a show on the quayside.
About four hours

Fjarå Café Bar
Supper
Fjarå Café Bar sits on its own small point above Breiwick Bay, off Sea Road on the south side of Lerwick, with big windows over the water, where you may spot seals and otters. In the evening it serves bistro dishes from a seasonal menu built on Shetland produce, with burgers and cocktails too, until 10pm Tuesday to Saturday. It closes at 5pm on Sundays and is shut on Mondays. Families are very welcome. Book on its website or on 01595 697388. If it's full, The Dowry on Commercial Street, nearer Mareel, has an evening menu: ring 01595 692373.
4 min by car

Mareel
A café
Drive 4 minutes round the town to Mareel on Hay's Dock, which has its own parking. Pick the night on Shetland Arts' website, which lists the films, music and other events with their times, and book there or on 01595 745500. The building stays open until 9pm Tuesday to Thursday and on Sundays, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, when the café bar stays open late for a drink after the show. It's shut on Mondays. There's full disabled access, with two wheelchairs to borrow and an accessible toilet.
If it rains
All of it is under a roof; only the 4-minute drive and the steps from the car are out in the weather.
