Shetland Islands
Mareel
Welcome
Mareel opened on the Lerwick waterfront in 2012 and is now the place most things happen: two cinema screens, a venue that takes touring bands and local ones, a recording studio and a café bar with a wall of glass onto the harbour.
It is run by Shetland Arts, and the programme runs from a Hollywood release on a Tuesday to a fiddle concert on a Friday. Even with nothing booked it is worth the walk along the front for a coffee at a window table, watching the ferries and the weather come in over Bressay.
