The Shetland Bookshop
A family bookshop with a wide range of Shetland books.
The Shetland Bookshop is a family business that has been on Commercial Street for many years.
What sets it apart is the local shelf: they aim to hold every book about Shetland currently in print, which is a much longer list than anybody expects (folklore, archaeology, knitting, dialect, the wrecks, the birds, the Norse), and they publish a good many of them themselves. Ask for something and somebody will know where it is, or whether it exists at all. For anyone trying to understand the islands rather than just look at them, this is the place to start.
