Shetland Islands
Jamieson and Smith
The wool brokers who buy Shetland's clip and sell it back as yarn.
Welcome
Jamieson and Smith buy the greater part of Shetland's wool clip straight off the crofts, grade it by hand and sell it on as the yarn that Fair Isle and Shetland lace are actually knitted from.
The shop on North Road is a working place rather than a boutique: shelves of real shade cards and fleeces in the back. Knitters come from a long way to stand in it. Even if you do not knit, it explains more about how Shetland has made its living than most museums manage.
