The Lounge Bar
Welcome
The Lounge is a bar on Mounthooly Street where musicians come in, sit down among the drinkers and play.
It has been the heart of Shetland's fiddle tradition for decades, and on a Saturday afternoon or a Wednesday evening the upstairs room fills with fiddles, guitars and whoever else has brought something. Nobody announces anything. There is no stage and no ticket, and the tunes run until they stop. Aly Bain played here before anyone outside Shetland had heard of him. Go early, sit at the edge, and do not talk over the playing.
