Knab coastal walk

The best way to start a day in Lerwick

Welcome

The Knab is the rocky headland at the southern edge of Lerwick's old town, and the path round it is the town's own coastal walk.

From the waterfront, the road runs south past the Lodberries, the old stone stores built right onto the water, where the television detective Jimmy Perez lives in the BBC's Shetland, and on towards the cemetery.

The path round the headland keeps close to the coast, with Second World War defences below, views across Bressay Sound to the Ward of Bressay, a viewpoint over the point of the Knab and the edge of the golf course. Clickimin Broch is a short step from the end, and the way back into town passes Hay's Dock and the Shetland Museum. The whole loop from Victoria Pier is about 6 kilometres and 2 hours, on pavements and good paths. It is a good walk in the early morning light.
