Ullapool

The Ceilidh Place – Supper, a Dram and Music in Ullapool

A few hours.

The route

The Ceilidh Place is a row of white cottages on West Argyle Street that has been Ullapool's place for an evening out since 1970: a hotel, café-bar, restaurant, bookshop and award-winning music venue under one roof.

Come for supper, stay for a dram by the wood-burner, and on the right night there's live music too.

Before you go

  1. Book accommodation nearby

If you are staying over: here are ours nearest where the day starts and ends.

The nearest of ours is Fjell, a mile away. Sleeps 2; next free Thu 12 Nov to Sat 14 Nov.

Then Fjord, a mile away. Sleeps 4; next free Fri 16 Oct to Sun 18 Oct.

  2. Book the Ceilidh Place

Ring the Ceilidh Place on 01854 612103 to book a table for supper and to ask whether there's live music that night: dinner tables are set from 5pm, food is served until 8pm, and gigs are not on every night.

The day

Ullapool

Supper in a row of white cottages, a dram in the café-bar beside the wood-burner, and, on a good night, a band or a singer to finish.

About three hours

    Supper

The Ceilidh Place is at 14 West Argyle Street. Park in the Highland Council car park on Latheron Lane, where the signs set the charge, and walk round. The restaurant sets its tables for dinner from 5pm and food is served until 8pm, so come in good time: venison from the hill, lamb from the crofts and fish from the sea, with a specials board that changes daily. Afterwards, take a seat in the café-bar by the wood-burner, where the staff will happily talk you through the whiskies and the island gins. Live music is often on, from bands and solo singers to theatre and the odd comedian, but not every night, so ring 01854 612103 to ask what's on and to book a table. Dogs are welcome in the restaurant, café and bar, and the bookshop stays open as long as the café does. Over Christmas and New Year, check before going.

If it rains

All of it is indoors; only the walk from the car park is out in the weather.
