Honeymoon Retreats in Scotland

Scotland was made for this sort of thing. Queen Victoria spent a week at Inverlochy Castle in 1873 and wrote in her diary that she'd never seen a lovelier or more romantic spot. She had a point, and not much has changed since.

What works about a honeymoon here is the choice. You can go full fairytale, a turreted castle on the Ayrshire coast with a six-course dinner and a fire in the room. Or you can disappear completely. An off-grid cabin on Loch Fyne. A bothy on a Skye croft with nothing but the sea and the sheep for company.

The places below are the ones we'd pick ourselves. Some come with a Michelin star and a butler. Others come with a wood-burner and a long single-track road to get there. All of them give you the one thing a honeymoon really needs, which is somewhere to shut the door and forget the rest of it.
