Uisge is one of the three original Inverlonan bothies, an off-grid cabin for two on the banks of Loch Nell in Glen Lonan, six miles from Oban.

The owners call it the original rusty one: the walls inside are rich, warm green clay, and the bed is on the mezzanine, up a ladder. A wood-burning stove keeps it warm, the power is renewable, and large windows look out over the loch.

A two-day farm breakfast pack is waiting on arrival. On your private deck there is an outdoor shower, and there is a campfire pit and a wood-fired pizza oven, with canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and a fishing rod to use on the loch. There is no indoor bathroom: your own eco toilet is a few steps away. The lochside wood-fired sauna can be booked as an extra.

Parking is at the farm, about 1.5km away, and the bothy is reached by buggy or on foot.

Where it is

Uisge is at Inverlonan, in Glen Lonan, six miles from Oban, on the bank of Loch Nell.

The bothies are near Bronze Age stone circles, and from the farm where you leave the car the bothy is reached by buggy or on foot, about 1.5km, with the team on hand to help with luggage.
