Oban Seafood Hut

Beside the ferry terminal on Oban's CalMac pier stands a little green hut that many visitors remember long after they have left.

The Oban Seafood Hut, known to everyone as the Green Shack, was set up in 1990 by fisherman John Ogden, who wanted to sell good, affordable seafood to local people and visitors alike.

It is not a restaurant but a hut with a counter, and the seafood comes fresh from the waters around Oban. There are oysters, mussels, dressed crab and crab claws, scallops, langoustines and lobster, along with seafood sandwiches, all made up on the spot. You eat at the picnic tables outside, looking over the fishing boats and the bay, or carry your plate along the pier.

The hut opens at ten in the morning, and it is a good way to fill the time before a ferry.
