Under an old painted draper's sign on George Street, a pale blue shopfront opens into the Modern Croft, a shop of craft, design and homewares chosen with a sharp eye.

Much of it is made in Scotland, alongside pieces of Scandinavian design and things from further afield.

Inside, the shelves and tables are arranged like a well-loved home: framed prints and mountain photographs on the walls, ceramics and turned wood, candles and incense, checked throws and cushions, tote bags on pegs, soaps, cards, jewellery and pantry treats.

The Modern Croft opens every day from ten until four. It is a good place in Oban to find a present, or something beautiful for your own home.
