Beatha is an off-grid bothy for two at Inverlonan, six miles from Oban, in an ancient oak woodland looking down on Loch Nell.

The owners call it the calm, cool, zen one, with soft cream clay walls. There is no road to the door: you park at the farm, about 1.5km away, and walk in, or the buggy takes you and your bags.

The bed is up a ladder on the mezzanine, and there is a wood-burning cooking stove and kitchenette. There is no indoor bathroom, just your own eco toilet and an outdoor shower on the private deck, which also has a campfire pit and a wood-fired pizza oven. A two-day farm breakfast pack is waiting on arrival, and canoes, kayaks, paddle boards and a fishing rod are there for the loch.

Of the Inverlonan bothies, Beatha is the dog-friendly one, and dogs can be booked in with your stay.

Where it is

Beatha is at Inverlonan, a farm in Glen Lonan, six miles from Oban (PA34 4QE), in the oak woods above Loch Nell.

Parking is at the farm, and the bothy is about 1.5km on by buggy or on foot, with the team on hand to help with luggage. Oban is the nearest town for shops, fuel and the ferries to the islands.
