    An attraction

There's a small free council car park at the top, up narrow lanes from the south side of the town. Or walk up by the signposted footpath that starts near the south end of the harbour, a steep climb from the town centre. From the car park it is a short walk up a wide path to the summit, 239 feet above the bay, where an iron seat stands. Close by, a viewpoint indicator put up in 1930 names what lies in sight, near and far. The view runs out past Kerrera over the islands of the Firth of Lorn. On the east side of the top stands the Minister's Stone. The story goes that ministers stood on it to preach to people gathered on the hilltop, which is how the hill is said to have got its name.

    A drink

Back in the town, coffee at Hinba on George Street, 4 minutes' drive down; the council's pay-and-display car park on the North Pier is a short walk away. Hinba was founded on the Isle of Seil in 2019, and its Oban café serves the full speciality coffee menu, with seasonal drinks and bags of beans to take home. Lorna Freytag, an Oban artist, calls it her favourite café in the town.

If it rains

Keep the hill for a clear spell, when the islands show; Hinba has seats inside.
