Slochd is three apartments for two at Barcaldine, about 15 minutes north of Oban, with loch, mountain and woodland views.

Each is open plan, with a super king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen with fresh coffee provisions, a Smart TV with a Sonos sound bar, and a walk-in rainfall shower with Arran Aromatics toiletries and Egyptian cotton linen and towels. Each has its own patio with furniture, and Slochd 03 and 04 also have a private hot tub. Slochd 02 has no hot tub.

The apartments take two adults each, with no children or infants and no pets. Caroline and Paul, who both grew up in Oban and have lived in Barcaldine for over 30 years, own and manage Slochd. Paul, a local joiner, worked on several of the surrounding houses before building it. Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland by the owners’ account, is a short drive away, and CalMac ferries leave its harbour for the islands.

Where it is

Slochd is at Barcaldine, Oban, Argyll PA37 1SE, about 15 minutes north of Oban, which is the nearest town for shops and the island ferries.

By car it is about 30 minutes to Glencoe, about an hour to Fort William, an hour and a half to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, about two and a half hours to Glasgow, about three hours to Edinburgh and about three hours to the Isle of Skye.
