Battleship Hill – A Walk Above Dunollie and Lunch on the Pier

Battleship Hill is the small hill above Dunollie at the north end of Oban, and the walk up it for the view starts in the middle of the town.
Lunch is back by the bay at Piazza on the North Pier.
The walk
The walk starts and finishes at the clocktower in Station Square, by the railway station. It heads north along the bay past St Columba's Cathedral to the war memorial and follows the woodland path towards Dunollie, then leaves it by a farm gate for a short climb to the top.
Above the gate the paths are faint and can be wet underfoot, and the last pull is very steep. On a clear day the top looks out over Kerrera, Lismore and the hills of Mull, and inland to Ben Cruachan.
The loop comes back down the same slope and returns to the town by a footpath behind the houses.
If it rains
The walk is out of doors all the way and the top is open hill, so bring waterproofs on a wet day; lunch is under a roof.
Afterwards

Piazza, Oban
Lunch
Coming back along George Street, the walk passes the North Pier, where Piazza is the Italian restaurant looking across the bay to Kerrera. Lunch is pizza or pasta, most dishes come in half portions, and there's gluten-free pizza and pasta if you ask. It opens every day, and in winter lunch is served until 2.30pm.
