Stormhouse South

Add to List

Introduction

The South House is a one-bedroom retreat built for couples, set above Loch Laich with a direct view across to Castle Stalker. It’s fully glazed on the front, cedar-clad on the sides, and positioned so you’re not overlooked. Inside, the floor is polished concrete, heated throughout. There’s a wood-burning stove, a proper oak kitchen with a long island, and built-in appliances that match the spec.

The bed is super-king size and angled toward the view. A remote curtain closes off the glass at night. The wetroom is concrete-walled with a rainfall shower and Sonos audio built in.

The deck runs flush with the interior and holds a mosaic-lined hot tub, dropped below wind height and screened with glass balustrades. It’s private enough for long soaks in any weather. Wi-Fi is strong, TV and Sky are included, and the sound system runs through the whole space.

The house is five minutes on foot from the Old Inn, where you can eat and drink. Oban and Fort William are both within a 45-minute drive. For many, the stay is about slowing down, watching the light change over the loch, and not having to go far. Everything you need is already here.

Facilities & Services

Everything you need is built in. There’s a big bed, underfloor heating, and a stove if the temperature drops. The kitchen’s oak with all the right gear and a long island for spreading out. The wetroom has a rainfall shower and Sonos built in. Step outside and you’ve got your own hot tub on the deck, sheltered by glass so the wind doesn’t ruin it. Wi-Fi’s fast, the TV has Sky, and the sound system reaches every corner. You’ll find towels, fresh sheets, and kitchen staples ready. There’s parking too, and a guide with good spots nearby

Location

Set above the loch near Appin, the South House gives you a direct view of Castle Stalker and the surrounding hills. It’s a short turn off the A828, with a steep little climb to the cabin. Parking’s up top. From here, you can walk to the local pub or head a few minutes by car to Port Appin. Oban and Glencoe are both reachable without much effort. The house feels private, tucked into the trees, but you’re still connected to everything around you. Lochs, ferries, forests, seafood. All of it close enough.

Good to know

The South House is for two adults. It’s not designed for families or groups. Pets may be allowed, but only with prior approval according to the owners' policy. There’s a five‑night minimum stay most of the year. You’ll need a car, and the track up to the house is narrow and steep but short. Once you’re there, parking is just outside the door. Mobile signal can drop out, but Wi‑Fi works well inside. The hot tub is always heated and cleaned between guests, ready to use straight away. The hosts have put together a digital welcome guide with instructions, restaurant tips, and good walks nearby. You can walk to the Old Inn for food and drinks. Nearest shops are about twenty minutes by car, so it’s best to bring supplies. The house stays warm year‑round, with underfloor heating and a wood‑burning stove. Summer brings the midges, but repellents are provided. The castle view doesn’t need much explaining.

What's nearby

You can walk to the Old Inn in under five minutes for food, drinks, or just a pint by the fire. Castle Stalker View Café is nearby too, with coffee, home baking, and a great view across the water. Port Appin is close by for ferry trips to Lismore or dinner at The Pierhouse. If you’re up for a drive, Glencoe is half an hour north and Oban is 40 minutes south. Both have shops, walks, and places to eat. There are also trails in the hills behind the cabin if you’d rather stay local. Binoculars are worth bringing. Sea eagles are regulars out here.
