Welcome

On the hill above Oban's town centre, the old Rockfield Primary School was saved by the town itself.

In 2014 a community campaign bought the building, and volunteers, staff and neighbours have turned it into the Rockfield Centre, a hub for the people of Oban and for anyone passing through.

The old classrooms are bright and airy, with tall windows, and they are put to every use: a café with red chairs and wooden tables, gallery rooms for exhibitions, workshops and classes, and space for groups and clubs. Community meals are served regularly, with plant-based choices, and the programme runs to live music, talks and nights themed on food from around the world.

It holds resources on Oban's heritage and a community book bank. Check the centre's own pages to see what is on during your visit, then walk down into the town, or up to McCaig's Tower for the view over the bay.
