Argyll and Bute, Oban
The Drury
Introduction
High above Oban Bay, a few minutes’ walk up from the harbour front, The Drury occupies a commanding position above the town, looking directly across the water towards Kerrera and the islands beyond. From the principal rooms, ferries edge in and out of the bay throughout the day, and by evening the lights along the esplanade begin to flicker on below, with McCaig’s Tower clearly visible across the hillside.
The house itself is substantial, arranged over multiple floors with wide staircases and tall windows that draw in light and frame the sea. Rooms are set up with groups in mind: a long dining table for shared meals, separate sitting areas for conversation or films, and enough bedrooms to give everyone proper space rather than makeshift arrangements. It suits large family holidays, reunions, wedding parties and celebratory weekends where people want to stay together rather than split across hotels.
Step outside and the terrace becomes the natural focal point. The hot tub faces the bay, and there is space for outdoor dining when the weather allows. From here, it is an easy walk down into town for seafood on the pier, a tour and tasting at Oban Distillery, or a boat trip out to Mull, Iona or Staffa, before returning uphill to a house that feels private yet firmly connected to everything Oban offers.
