Cuan Mor, Oban

An all-day bar and restaurant on George Street looking over Oban Bay, built from Ballachulish slate and old pier timber.

Welcome

Cuan Mor takes its name from the Gaelic for big ocean, and it looks straight out across Oban Bay from George Street.

It is an easy, all-day kind of place: breakfast from eight, coffee and cake through the morning, then lunch and a long evening menu until nine.

The room itself is part of the appeal. It was built with Ballachulish slate and heavy greenheart timber beams that once formed part of the lighthouse pier. There is a busy bar with local beers and a good list of whiskies, a terrace on the pavement for fine days, and dogs are welcome in parts of the restaurant.

Cuan Mor opens every day, and you can usually walk straight in, though at busy times there may be a short wait. Groups of six or more should book ahead.
