Seal Cabin
Introduction
Seal Cabin sits right on the shoreline of Loch Goil, part of the Woodside Lodge estate since the 1860s, and from the moment the door closes behind you the sense of privacy is immediate. The living space is compact and warm, centred around a log burner, with French doors that open straight onto a deck suspended above the water, where the loch stretches out towards forested hills and shifting Highland skies.
The bedroom rests on a mezzanine reached by ladder, creating a tucked-away feel that suits couples looking for somewhere quiet and self-contained. It is a simple place in footprint, yet carefully arranged, with a welcome pack waiting on arrival and robes laid out for slow mornings. Days here revolve around the water and the surrounding hills, whether that means walking the nearby woodland trails, hiring a small boat from the village pier, or driving out towards Inveraray and Loch Fyne for a change of scene.
Facilities & Services
Seal Cabin is compact in size yet thoughtfully equipped for a comfortable stay. The living area centres around a log burner, with French doors opening directly onto the deck above the loch. Inside, there is a television, sound system, DVD player and Wi-Fi, along with room-darkening blinds for restful nights beneath the mezzanine bedroom. The shower room is designed as a wet room and includes toiletries, hot water, fluffy towels, dressing gowns and slippers.
The kitchenette is small but practical, with a fridge, mini freezer, gas cooker, single oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker, alongside cooking basics, crockery and wine glasses for relaxed meals indoors. A welcome pack is provided on arrival with milk, fresh juice, fruit, tea, coffee, biscuits and mineral water. Outdoor furniture on the deck allows for dining or morning coffee overlooking the loch, and free parking is available on the estate. One dog is welcome, with a dog basket and treats included.
Location
Seal Cabin sits on the shores of Loch Goil within the private Woodside Lodge estate, just outside the village of Lochgoilhead on the Cowal Peninsula. The setting feels remote, with the deck looking straight across the sea loch towards wooded hills and Highland peaks, yet the village is close enough for a short walk to the Boat Shed Café, local boat hire, and the Goil Inn. The drive in follows the A83 from Arrochar before turning onto the single-track B828, with Inveraray, Loch Fyne and the western edge of Loch Lomond all within easy reach for day trips.
Good to know
Seal Cabin is designed for two guests and has a minimum stay of two nights, with a maximum of five nights per booking. One dog is welcome for an additional £30 fee. Check-in is from 4pm and departure is at 10am. Guests are greeted on arrival at the private gates of Woodside Lodge, where secure on-site parking is provided.
The double bedroom sits on a mezzanine level and is accessed by ladder, which may not suit guests with limited mobility. The kitchenette is compact and intended for light self-catering rather than elaborate cooking. Food and beverages are not included, though Scottish platters, charcuterie, seafood selections and drinks can be pre-ordered with at least five days’ notice. Activities such as boat hire, paddle boarding and mountain biking can be arranged locally, and the estate team are on hand if assistance is needed during your stay.
