South Bothy is a restored stone bothy for two at the end of the old steadings on the Aldourie Castle estate, on the east shore of Loch Ness about seven miles south-west of Inverness.

Downstairs is the double bedroom with its shower room, and its arched glass doors open straight onto a gravel patio with a table and chairs, looking out over the meadow to the wooded hills.

Upstairs is one light, open room to live in, with a small kitchen, a round table by the window and a log-burning stove under a gilt oval mirror. WildLand has restored it with a touch of Scandinavian calm, and there's a barbecue for evenings outside under wide skies. Meadows, woodland paths and the loch shore are close by, and e-bikes can be hired. It suits solo travellers, couples and close friends, and dogs are welcome.

We wish to restore our parts of the Highlands to their former magnificent natural state.

Where it is

South Bothy is at the end of the old steadings on the Aldourie Castle estate, which stands on the east shore of Loch Ness by Dores, about seven miles south-west of Inverness.

Inverness is the nearest city for shops and restaurants, and there's parking close to the bothy.

Getting hereAldourie is at the north end of Loch Ness by the village of Dores, a short drive south-west of Inverness. Ivy Cottage is on the road to Dores, opposite the village school; South Bothy is at the end of the castle steadings, with parking nearby.
