Supper at The Kitchen and a film at Eden Court

Inverness – Supper by the River Ness and a Night at Eden Court

A few hours.

The route

Eden Court, on the west bank of the River Ness in Inverness, is a theatre and cinema beside a Victorian bishop's palace.

Supper comes first at The Kitchen, a restaurant on the riverbank, and then it's a short walk along the water to a film or a show.

The day

Inverness

An evening in town: supper by the river, then the cinema or the theatre.

    The Kitchen

    Supper

The Kitchen fills three floors of a glass building on Huntly Street, on the bank of the River Ness across from the castle. Leave the car in Eden Court's pay-and-display car park, where the evening ends, and walk north along the river. The menu changes with the seasons and leans on Scottish produce, and the set dinner menu, served from 5pm to 6.30pm, leaves time for a film or a show after. There's a children's menu and highchairs, and a ground-floor table if you ask for one when you book.

    An attraction

It's about nine minutes' walk back along the river, past St Andrew's Cathedral. Eden Court opened in 1976, and the beehive roofs of its first foyer are still there, joined by a glazed link to the Bishop's Palace, built in 1878 for Bishop Robert Eden. The cinemas show new films alongside screenings of ballet and theatre, and the stages take drama, music, dance and comedy, so pick a film or a show from the programme on its website. There is time before the start for a drink in the riverside Café Bar.

If it rains

Both are under a roof; only the walks along the river are out in the weather.
