On the corner of Church Street and Church Lane, a pale pink building with barrels at the door and a sign of a walrus in a scarf marks a wine bar.

The Walrus & Corkscrew opened in April 2021, when many thought it mad to open anything at all, and it has been busy ever since.

The list runs to around two hundred wines, at a range of prices, and there is whisky, spirits and Scottish beer too. To go with them come simple platters of cheese and dry-cured meats from Highland producers, with local sourdough, and there are wine tastings and events through the year.

It is a relaxed, friendly place, with tables outside in the sun and more over two floors inside, and both dogs and children are welcome. It opens every afternoon until late. From Thursday to Sunday it is very busy, so phone ahead to book.
