McBain's by the River

A small family-run restaurant on Bank Street by the River Ness in Inverness, cooking local seafood, Highland venison and beef to order.

Welcome

On Bank Street, where the River Ness runs by the Old North Church and the little Greig Street suspension bridge crosses the water, McBain's is a small family restaurant with its windows on the river.

The kitchen cooks everything fresh to order from Highland and Scottish produce, and the menu runs to lobster, scallops, halibut and sea bass from the sea; Highland venison, game and beef matured for twenty-eight days from the land. Steaks come topped with prawns, and there is local beer from Cromarty to drink.

The dining room is snug and smart, with dark banquettes and set tables, and the welcome is warm. It opens for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, and an early pre-theatre menu suits a show at Eden Court, just across the river. Book for dinner.
