A bright yellow café on Church Street in Inverness with hand-made doughnuts and barista coffee by day, and espresso martinis by night at the end of the week.

Halfway along Church Street, a shopfront painted a cheerful yellow reads Perk, Coffee + Doughnuts, and a chalkboard at the door promises it is open every day.

Since 2018 it has been making doughnuts for Inverness.

The doughnuts are made by hand and sit in a glass case at the counter, glazed and each with a numbered card, with vegan ones among them. There are pastries too, and sandwiches and toasties chalked up on the board for lunch. The coffee is made with care by baristas at a big espresso machine, with beans from Dear Green.

Inside it is small and friendly, with a cushioned bench under a frosted window and a few seats outside. From Thursday to Sunday PERK stays open into the evening, and on Fridays and Saturdays it turns into an espresso martini bar, with mini doughnuts on the side, until late.
