The Malt Room was the first bar in Inverness given over entirely to whisky, and since 2017 it has been the place in the city to taste your way round Scotland.
The idea began in London, when an Inverness bar manager, Matt Macpherson, stayed with a fellow whisky lover, Alex Hancock, and the two agreed that the Highland capital needed a dedicated whisky bar. The room they made is small and warm, with shelves of bottles glowing behind the bar: malts from the Highlands, Speyside, Islay, Campbeltown, the Lowlands and the islands, and whiskies from America, Japan and Ireland.
The staff know the range and will guide you through it. Try a flight of three drams on a board, or ask for something new. There are cocktails, wine and beer too. It is open every day until late.
