Tomatin Distillery

Tomatin Distillery stands beside the A9, sixteen miles south of Inverness and fifteen north of Aviemore, in a part of the Highlands with a long whisky-making tradition.

The distillery itself dates from 1897, and by 1974 it had 23 stills and was the largest malt distillery in the world. Twelve of those stills remain today, and the focus is on Highland single malt.

The Legacy Tour takes an hour and a half: a walk through the distillery's story, from 1897 to the present day, followed by a tutored tasting of three whiskies back at the visitor centre. Longer tastings and a Stillman's tour behind the scenes run too. Book ahead to be sure of a place, and if you are driving, ask for Driver's Drams, which are your tasting poured to take away. If you only have time to drop in, the bar offers a complimentary taste of the Tomatin 12 Year Old.

The visitor centre is open 7 days, 10am to 4.30pm in October 2026; the distillery's tours page gives the current hours.

Tours from £20 (the Legacy Tour, 1.5 hours with a tutored tasting of three whiskies); Taste of Tomatin from £50 (2.5 hours); the Stillman's Tour from £65 (2 hours); the Warehouse 6 Tasting Experience from £80 (3 hours). Read 21 October 2026.
Booking
Book on the distillery's tours page. Legacy tours run regularly through the day, but booking ahead guarantees your place.
Drivers
The tastings in each experience can be taken away as Driver's Drams.
Dogs
Guide and assistance animals are permitted in the visitor centre. Other pets cannot be accommodated.
Getting there
By car or taxi. The distillery points to Stagecoach Inverness for bus timetables and says Ember's electric buses regularly pass through Tomatin; the visitor centre is a 10 minute stroll from the Tomatin bus stop.
Access
Disabled access is available to most parts of the distillery; tell the distillery of any requirements when you book.
