Hootananny

A lively pub on Church Street in Inverness with live traditional music every night in its ceilidh bar, hearty Scottish food and a Saturday afternoon ceilidh.

Welcome

Halfway down Church Street, a dark frontage glows with purple light behind big arched windows, and gold letters across the top spell out one word: Hootananny.

It is the place in Inverness for traditional music, and there is live music here every night of the week.

The ceilidh bar on the ground floor is high-ceilinged and wooden-floored, with a small stage where fiddlers, pipers, singers and bands play to crowded tables; on a good night the room ends up dancing. On Saturday afternoons there is a ceilidh too. Upstairs there are more rooms and bars, and the kitchen serves steak and ale pie, haggis, and bangers and mash, with Scottish ales on tap.

The family-run venue was named Scotland's Best Live Music Venue in 2019. It gets busy: book a table, ideally a day ahead, and arrive early for a seat near the music.
