Once notorious for its curmudgeonly landlord - if he didn’t like the look of you, he wouldn’t serve you - now the Canny Man’s is more universally welcoming. An Edinburgh institution since 1871, it’s a family-run, independent old-school boozer, famous for its Bloody Marys and proclaimed “the best pub in the world” by Rick Stein.
