Welcome

On Gillespie Place, a short walk from the King's Theatre where Tollcross turns into Bruntsfield, Harajuku Kitchen serves Japanese food cooked from family recipes.

The chef is Kaori Simpson, and her kitchen has held an AA Rosette three years running; The Scotsman has named it the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh.

The room is calm and simple, with stone walls, wooden tables and benches, and a small beckoning cat on the counter. The menu runs from hand-folded gyoza and crisp tempura to bento boxes and beautifully arranged plates of sushi and sashimi. There is sake to drink alongside.

Harajuku Kitchen opens every day, for lunch on most days and for dinner every evening. Tables can be booked online or on 0131 285 8182, and the kitchen also runs a stall at the Edinburgh Street Food market.
