Edinburgh
The Scott Hotel
Introduction
The Scott is located on the south side of Edinburgh, set back from the busier streets but still within easy reach of the Old Town. Built in the 18th century, the building retains much of its original character, with period features such as wood panelling, fireplaces, and detailed interiors carried through the main spaces.
There are 36 rooms, each individually designed, combining modern fittings with the structure of the house. Some are located within the main building, while others sit in neighbouring wings nearby. On site, Bonnar’s restaurant serves a seasonal menu focused on Scottish ingredients, with a separate lounge available for drinks and more informal use.
The location works well. Holyrood Park is right next to the hotel, offering open space and walking routes, while the Royal Mile and central Edinburgh are still close enough to reach easily.

Good to know
Good to know before you arrive, The Scott sits on the south side of Edinburgh, within walking distance of the Old Town, though the return journey includes an uphill section. On-site parking is available, which is useful given the city’s central restrictions. The setting is quieter than most city hotels, with open space right beside the building, but you’re still close to key sights and transport links. Rooms are spread across the main house and neighbouring buildings, so layouts and access can vary slightly. It’s worth checking details in advance if you have a specific preference.
What's nearby
Holyrood Park sits right next to the hotel, with direct access to walking routes including Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags. It’s one of the easiest ways to step straight into open ground without leaving the city.
The Old Town is within walking distance, bringing you onto the Royal Mile, with Edinburgh Castle at one end and the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the other. This part of the city also includes a mix of independent shops, cafés, and historic streets.
You’re also close to the University area, where there are more casual places to eat and drink. For museums, the National Museum of Scotland and Surgeons’ Hall are both nearby, making it a practical base for exploring the city without needing to travel far.
