A second-hand bookshop on the corner of Hope Park Crescent, looking over the Meadows, crammed floor to ceiling since 1985.
On the corner of Hope Park Crescent, where the city meets the east side of the Meadows, a turquoise shopfront with 'Books New and Old, Bought and Sold' painted above the door has been luring readers in since 1985.
Visited and photographed by Simon Hird
Inside, the shelves run from floor to ceiling through a warren of rooms, packed with fiction old and new, science fiction, history, biography, philosophy and poetry, with glass-fronted cabinets for the rarer and more beautiful books. There are crates of comics and graphic novels, a corner of children's books, and in winter a stove burns beside a red armchair. Wooden stools stand at the window, where you can sit with a book and look out over the trees of the Meadows.
The shop is open every day, from ten in the morning during the week and from noon on Sundays, until six.
