Welcome

Clerk Street, on the south side of the city, is lined with small Chinese restaurants, and Taste of Home at number 53 has one of the widest menus of them.

Its menu travels right across China. From Sichuan there's sliced fish in hot chilli oil and dan dan noodles, from Hunan a fiery stir-fry of pork, and from the north-east a slow stew of pork, aubergine and beans, with grilled sea bass and spicy pots for the table. Plates of greens, noodles and rice fill out the rest, so it's a lovely place to order a few dishes and share them between friends. It's open every day from eleven in the morning until ten at night, which makes it as handy for a late lunch after a morning in the Old Town as for dinner, and there's a takeaway too. Tables can be booked, children are welcome, and the Meadows are only a few minutes' walk away.
