Kungfu Bakery
An Asian bakery on Nicolson Square, opened in 2026, baking pineapple buns, soft breads, Swiss rolls and bagels.
Kungfu Bakery opened on Nicolson Square in 2026, under a red and white striped awning a few steps from Surgeons' Hall and the university.
It was started by a group of Chinese mothers who have lived in Edinburgh for years, and it's their first bakery together. The shelves are full of the soft, light breads of an Asian bakery: pineapple buns with their crackly sugar tops, hot dog buns, coconut cocktail buns, plaited cheese buns, bagels and Swiss rolls, with small cream cakes topped with fruit and coffee and soy milk to go with them. It's a cheerful stop for something sweet on a walk between the Old Town and the Meadows, or a bag of buns to take home for later. It's open every day from ten in the morning until seven at night, so it's easy to call in on the way back from a day in town, and students get a discount.

Open every day from 10am to 7pm, for buns and cakes to take away.
