The Marchmont cafe of Machina, an Edinburgh speciality roaster, a large bright room on the south side, with coffee roasted behind Arthur's Seat.

Welcome

On Marchmont Road, among the tall tenements of the south side a few minutes from the Meadows, a dark shopfront with an espresso machine gleaming in the window is Machina, one of Edinburgh's own speciality coffee roasters.

Machina roasts all of its coffee at its roastery just behind Arthur's Seat, buying with care from the farms that grow it, and the Marchmont cafe is where it is poured. Inside, the room is large and bright, with plenty of space to sit, and there is espresso and filter coffee, with pastries and cakes to go with it. Bags of the roastery's coffees are for sale to take home, and the kit to brew them.

The cafe opens every day from early morning until the late afternoon, a good stop before or after a walk across the Meadows or a browse in the bookshops of the south side.
