On Morningside Road, behind a wide shop window lit in the evenings, the Morningside Gallery has been showing and selling contemporary art since 2003.

It is a bright, white-walled space hung with paintings from floor to ceiling, with ceramics on plinths between them.

The gallery shows artists from across Scotland and the rest of the UK, and it puts on solo and mixed exhibitions through the year, so the walls change often. Landscapes, flowers and city scenes sit side by side in every kind of style, from quiet and precise to thick and bright with colour. A small team runs it, and they are happy to talk about the artists and their work.

The gallery is open from Monday to Saturday, ten until five, and on Sunday afternoons. Pieces can also be bought online, and the team will arrange a viewing or let a painting go home on trial.
