The Canny Man’s

A Morningside pub founded in 1871 and kept by the same family ever since, its rooms crowded with curios, with a long list of whiskies.

Welcome

Towards the southern end of Morningside Road, the Canny Man's has been pouring drinks since 1871, and it has been passed down through the generations of one family, the Kerrs, ever since.

It is a free house, as free as the wind, as one Mr Kerr used to say, and it is unlike any other pub in the city.

Every wall, shelf and ceiling is crowded with things gathered over the years: old mirrors advertising pale ale, musical instruments, clocks, paintings and plates, stuffed animals and curiosities of every kind, so that a drink here comes with an hour's looking. There are small rooms off the bar and a red-walled dining room, a long list of whiskies, and a Bloody Mary that has made the pub's name well beyond Morningside.

The Canny Man's opens every day from noon until late, with food at lunch and in the evening.
