Chapter One

A fully plant-based coffee shop on the corner of Dalry Road, a few minutes' walk from Haymarket, with vegan cakes, sandwiches and breakfasts.

Welcome

On a corner of Dalry Road, a few minutes' walk from Haymarket station, a white-painted shopfront with an olive tree in a planter at the door is Chapter One, an independent coffee shop where everything on the menu is plant-based.

The glass counter is stacked with the day's baking: vegan cakes and traybakes, croissants and pastries, filled rolls and sandwiches. There are breakfasts too, a full Scottish plate with the sausage and the eggs made without meat or dairy, and scrambled tofu on toast. The coffee comes with a choice of plant milks, and there are hot chocolates, smoothies and teas. The room is small, with wooden tables and chairs under the big windows and plants in the corners.

Chapter One opens every day, from eight on weekdays and nine at weekends, until five in the afternoon. It is a handy stop on the way to Fountainbridge and the canal, or before a train from Haymarket.
