Welcome

Nishiki is a Japanese izakaya and sake bar on Morrison Street, a few minutes' walk from Haymarket, and one of the most exciting new places to eat in Edinburgh.

An izakaya is a relaxed Japanese pub where you order plates to share as you drink, and that's the idea here, in a calm, minimal room of pale wood with seats at the counter and a long table for groups. The menu runs from small plates like takoyaki and karaage to sashimi from the raw bar, temaki hand rolls, grilled langoustine and black cod, with bowls of noodles and udon to fill you up. To drink there's sake, wine and Japanese tea. At the weekend it opens early for a Japanese breakfast, which is a lovely way to start a day in the city. Nishiki is open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner, and you can book a table through its own site.
