The Palmerston
A restaurant and bakery in a former bank on Palmerston Place in the West End, butchering whole animals in-house and changing its European-style menu every day.
The Palmerston is one of Edinburgh's best-loved neighbourhood restaurants, in a former bank on the corner of Palmerston Place in the West End.
The old banking hall makes a gorgeous dining room, with tall arched windows, a patterned tiled floor and bentwood chairs around the bar. The kitchen buys whole animals and butchers them in-house, works with farmers, growers and fishermen around Scotland, and writes a European-style menu that changes every day. Its own bakery makes the bread and pastries daily, so come from nine for coffee and a pastry, or settle in for lunch, with a set menu from Tuesday to Friday. It's on the Good Food Guide's list of Britain's 100 best local restaurants for 2026, and in the Michelin Guide. Dogs are welcome, so just mention yours when you book. The Palmerston is cashless, is closed on Mondays, and takes bookings through Resy from its own site.
