Edinburgh, West End
Heads & Tales
Introduction
During the day, the Rutland Hotel’s basement is a working distillery of the brand ‘Edinburgh Gin’. Come evening time, it is the brand’s cocktail bar ‘Heads & Tales’. It was ranked sixth top cocktail bar in Europe by the travel guide ‘Big Seven’. As expected, the menu is very gin-centred. In fact, there are over eighty different types on offer, including their own brand of course. You can even design and sample you’re very own cocktail creation in what they call ‘Gin-It-Yourself’. Two stills are kept in the bar – nicknamed Flora and Caledonia. There is something magical about seeing real gin being distilled whilst sipping your G&T. Equipment used in the distilling process are incorporated into the décor of the bar, with lots of metallic surfaces and soft lighting. There is a great selection of bar nibbles to sample, including cheese, smoked fish, and haggis bon-bons. There is also an extensive selection of tasty Asian food.
